10 ways to start loving yourself the way you deserve to be loved

How many times do you take care of yourself? Is Self Care on the top of your to do list or is it on the bottom? Is Self Care on your OPTIONAL task list i.e. will do if there is time? Self Care is the one thing we will eliminate from our to do list when we are stressed.

The truth is SELF CARE IS NOT OPTIONAL rather it is essential for your optimal health (Mind, Body, Heart, Spirit).

Self care is defined as "the practice of daily activities that are necessary to sustain life and health, normally carried out by the individual for him or her self.   It is the act of taking care of one's self on all levels of being.  It is identifying your essential needs and then prioritizing these". ( https://www.habitsforwellbeing.com/what-is-self-care/ )

 

 

I have found that self care can be as simple as taking a break to just breathe and drink some water. This practice refreshes your body and spirit and increases your focus on what is necessary to accomplish a task or goal for the day. 

 

Here are 10 ways you can practice self care:

  1. Smile at yourself in the mirror. 

    • Did you know that the act of smiling changes the chemistry in your brain and increases the happiness hormone (endorphins and Serotonin)

  2. Call a friend

  3. List 5 things you love about yourself

  4. Say NO when you mean NO

  5. Eat a healthy snack

  6. Change the background of your computer or phone screen to an up lifting quote and/or photo

  7. Acknowledge (congratulate) yourself for everything you do to take care of yourself

  8. Write yourself a LOVE note and post it on your bathroom mirror

  9. Color in a coloring book

  10. Buy some flowers for yourself
